I do hate to break it to you but the consensus among astute show fans is that the police work on this show is more camp than gritty. On a police realism scale of 1 (Batman the TV series) to 10 (The Wire), SVU is probably a 4. Would particularly cite the tidy wrapping up of cases in two weeks time (crime to conviction) as distinctly unrealistic. But then again, if you are somehow inclined toward a career in law enforcement, don’t let that stop you! And never watch The Wire.
